come running.

Do you ever read something that just rings so true to YOU {your life, your goals, your heart, all you know to be true} that it brings you to tears?  I stumbled upon a blog post the other night about mothering boys that did just that.  It made my heart full and reminded me that even on what I may deem a hard or pitiful day of mothering (when I feel like I have not an ounce of patience left, when all of the tricks up my sleeve just aren't making anything better, etc)..... even on THOSE days, I know I'm doing everything that TRULY matters just right.  All because I will always, always, ALWAYS "Come Running".  I'll do so because that's what my heart knows and it will have a far greater effect on my children than anything else.
Many of you are unaware, simply because I've never shared it  here on my blog....  but, I lost my mom at a very young age.  My dad did his very, very best to play both roles (and he did a pretty bang-up job I might add!).  In all honesty, for the longest time, I never felt like I missed out on anything because I simply didn't know what life looked like with a mom.  When I was 15 (and my brother 17), my dad remarried.  Up until then, it was just the three of us....me, my dad and my brother.  We were, and still certainly are, a very fierce unit.  There are a hundred things I could tell you that my dad "did right" by us and he could probably tell you a handful of things that he wished he had done far differently.  But, the one thing that I know for certain and love most about him:  he always came running.  Truth be told, he still comes running.  At a moments notice, he'd be here in a quick hurry if I said the words.  When it matters, he comes running.

And with all of my being, I will do the exact same for Jackson and any future minis we might have.  It's all too easy to get wrapped up in doing one-hundred different things "right" and according to the latest and greatest parenting book [when to start teaching colors, how to sleep train, when to potty train].  And don't get me wrong, I've read those books. But, I'm reminded that the most important thing we can do as mothers {or fathers!} is to come running!

So this is my reminder to each of you.... those, who like me, are in the midst of mothering, those who are mamas-to-be and those who who will be moms someday down the road::::::: don't stress the little things, but always, always come running!

just copied that quote to put on my fridge, and in my planner! what a beautiful thing! I lost my Mom at 22 and it has been just awful. Through the years I have connected with a lot of friends (including my husband) who lost mothers at early ages. We all joke that its the club no one wants to be apart of! Thank you for sharing your story, it makes me feel not so alone in motherless motherhood. Know you are amazing as a women and mother, I have so enjoyed reading about you and your world!

This is so wonderful and exactly what I want to be to my babes! Thanks for sharing!

BTW, I know you don't know who I am, but I found your blog through the Fenner Four and I love reading your posts because I love how candid you are. I feel if I were to have a blog it would be very similar to yours! Have a great day!

What an amazing quote. So many times we get caught up in our own worlds and forget that our babies need just this...for us to come running. Even on bed rest I can still figuratively "run" lol!

Okay, seriously such a sweet post. Of course, I teared up when reading this, for more reasons than one. I lost my Father when I was young, so I can relate to losing a parent but it is sooo obvious how incredibly wonderful of a mother you are! Your Daddy did good, that is certain!
