A Design Dilemma - Place Your Vote!

I'm working from home this morning and then headed out the door to meet some sweet friends / old colleagues for lunch.  But, I thought I'd take a quick second this morning to get your opinion on something.

Here's the deal:  I'm really sick of our entry table / mirror [see photo below --- and yes, I've already bedazzled the entryway with pink, red and gold Valentine's cheer].  Anyway, back to the furniture itself.  It's what we bought when we first built our house almost 8 years ago.  It's just all so very black and "blah" to me.  Maybe I'm being too picky .... or maybe I just feel like it's time to freshen things up a bit.  So, I wanted to get your opinion because I'm kind of torn between these two options and I know that Cason will likely vote for the cheapest route.  Ha!   Obviously, the first option would be less expensive, but I just want to be happy with it long term and pick things out that we'll use for a long while!

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?  OPTION 1 OR 2?

I love option 2, that's my vote!!!

I like option #2, is painting the black mirror or stand an option?

Marie Luciano said...

I love option two. And you also get rid of the black but I love that gold mirror.

I love that table, it has a timeless style to it, so I'd probably just update the hardware & get the gold mirror.

I love the industrial table and the gold mirror (I know, really helpful). But I say stick with your black table, get the gold mirror and get industrial type accessories to add to the bottom of the table. Just accessories the base pieces you already have that way you can change it out more easily later :)

What about painting the mirror and/or stand? I do love the industrial look, however!

I looove option #2!

I really love option 2, but I also really love option 1! I think if you just swap out the mirror and maybe add some new things, it'd look amazing as well! :)

Option 2 is fabulous but I totally think you could make 1 work, too. Have you thought about painting the table?

Jenny Broussard said...

loving option 2 but I do think you could even work with what you have. You could spray paint the mirror and the table or just the table and add the gold mirror! Either way it'll look great as you keep adding new fresh accents!

I am not really a gold person and #2 is a pin that I have on my Home Board so I may be biased but my vote is for number 2!

Loving option 2!!! :)

I say option 1. I love that entry table and think it would look so chic paired with the new mirror.

Is option 1 a "quick fix" where you'll be wanting to change the entry way table again in just a few months??? Just speaking as a person who changes her decorating taste like I change my Brita filter, monthly!! Go for the total change if it'll make you happier!! -Audra @keepinupwiththejahns.blogspot.com

I think option 1 will give you a refreshed look, and maybe the small change you're looking for! Either one will look GREAT! xo

I love your black table! How about a little DIY - gold spray paint is a wife-with-a-budget's best friend! Then you could change the hardware and maybe even do the "dipped" look on the table to tie in more gold and change the look.

I love it just the way it is!!!

I personally love the black table but the gold mirror would be a great contrast to the all-dark scheme!

Ashlee said...

Option #1!

Sara Hughes said...

I like option 1 because you can find adorable new hardware to brighten up the black if you go with the gold.

I love option #2 (where is it from????) but think that option #1 would be a nice fresh change for less money. (But I love #2!!! Hahah)

Oh I am partial to the industrial look.. that's more my style but yes definitely option # 2! ♥

Cynthia Meyers said...

absolutely love the option 2 table. But as someone else stated earlier, the table is really timeless and classic and could be changed up with hardware several different ways and just switch out the mirror and table toppers!

Shayna @ The Fancy Yancey said...

I do love Option 2 BUT if you want to save a little cha-ching you could always repaint the black table & the frame of the mirror. Get some really cool paint that makes it look industrial. That way you have more freedom to change up the smaller items & you won't feel it as much on your pocket book.

the girl in the red shoes said...

You can't go wrong with either!!!!!

Amy said...

I like both ideas. I really do. To save a little money but to make it fresh, you could always paint your existing table, add new hardware & treat yourself to the mirror! :)

Lauren said...

Love option one and then accessorize!

I have so much black furniture that we've had for about 7 years and I'm getting rid of all of it piece by piece. I can't wait! So I feel your pain. I love option #2- but if your husband really gets on you about spending $$ then I say at least go for #1 for now and then switch out the console table when you can.

Ashlee said...

I like #2 a lot! but is it something you can live with for a long time? I kind of feel like it's trendy and since you mentioned wanting it to last a long while maybe spruce up what you have until you find something you love that's a little more classic?

Nina B said...

I think you can't go wrong either way! But if it were me, I know I would first want to try with what I have. I would change the hardware and I would paint the mirror gold. But like I said, you can't go wrong.

As much as I love the metal table, I say option 1! The gold and black mixed together just seems so much more inviting and welcoming to me than option two! Cannot wait to see how you decorate the one you do select :-)

I have always loved that pin - so pretty. If you don't have other areas in the house you need to update, then go for it! But, if you've got other projects or pieces you want to get I think you can definitely work with what you have. (Which I also think looks great, but I understand wanting a change.)

I am looking for a mirror - black - for my living room.... lets make a deal!!!! :-)

CTBaker in The Acres said...

Option 1. There are so many great mirrors to be bought!!! And maybe paint the table?

Cherish said...

I like option 2 but I'd have to say option 1. While I love the industrial look, I think it's only a trend that we'll all end up being sick of before we know it. I think you can update your current table w. some new hardware to achieve the industrial look and I love that mirror. You could always paint the table, too to lighten it up a bit. Can't wait to see what you end up doing. : )

I really like Option 2 but I also like the way it looks now :)

What about Option #2, but maybe paint the industrial table with a tarnished brown color and use the mirror? I love experimenting with artsy decor.

Jenny Ayers said...

option 2!

Kristy Mays said...

I like them both but would opt for #1. It's much more classic and versatile.

Option 2 is my vote!! Such a sleek and clean look, not to mention-modern and contemporary :)

Option 1! Saves money and less trendy, i think- I do think 2 is pretty though! Love your cute blog!

How about a can of gold spray paint for your mirror and hardware?

In This Wonderful Life said...

I saw why not go for a change and do 2! both are pretty!

Rachel said...

Love both, but my vote is for #1!

Caitlin Juarez said...

I love option one. The table is wonderful the mirror just needs a change!

Casey said...

How about a write in option. :) I LOVE the structure of the piece you already have. But, since you are tired of it, you could always paint it...a fun color, or a grey/silver if you want that look. Then, you could still get a new mirror/hardware of you want that but get the feel of a new piece of furniture without changing the whole thing for cost effectiveness!

Jacqueline Presley said...

I like Casey's comment. Another option would be to turn your current mirror the other way & paint it. Maybe with several finishes to give it a more interesting tone. I have used Modern Masters paints & got really good results. Here's a link to some of their metallic finishes:

I think it's smart to repaint your entry table too. White, grey???

Chelsea G said...

2!!!! I love the earthy colors and industrial look!

But to save money I might even paint the table and the sand it a little for a vintage/rustic look and paint the mirror and turn it (like others have said)

Sara Elizabeth said...

Option One for sure!!! It's so perfect! Amanda totally said it best above!

southern daze said...

I say option 2 because it's totally new and will make you smile every time you see it :) Option 1 (in my option) isn't enough different from today's look to make you happy. Yes, it will cost more money but in the long run, you'll be happier. If you just change out the mirror and hardware you may want to change it again after just a few months. It took Lee & I about 7 years to really discover what our style was and, unfortunately, it wasn't what we'd both compiled over the years. While it has taken lots of $$ to switch things out over the years everything we have purchased continues to make me smile and I know it will be in our home for years & years to come. My advice is to go the direction that makes your heart (and design eye) the happiest. It may take awhile to switch out the whole look, but that will just give you time to decide what you REALLY want. Good luck!

I don't like #2 - it's too industrial IMO. It looks like it belongs in a garage. The black is VERY black though. I have a black entertainment center and black corner desk in my living room, so I know what you mean about it being "blah."

My suggestion: Add the gold mirror and new hardware, and maybe buy or make a pretty runner in a light/cream color with gold accents to offset all the black. :)

I love the idea of option 1 just changing the look up. If anything maybe you could freshen the look up by painting the black table?! I think it looks great! It's not something that will ever age or go out of style! :)
